How to apply
The U.S. Department of State website provides detailed information about passports. Before you submit your application, you should review their information to ensure you have everything that you need.
- Complete the passport form, DS-11
- Gather your evidence of citizenship and a current ID
- Have your picture taken (available at CVS or Walgreens)
- Calculate your fees
- Submit your application
Note: these instructions are for individuals who are applying using the DS-11 form. If you are renewing your passport (using form DS-82), you need to follow different instructions, and are not required to appear at a passport acceptance facility.
Paying for a passport application
You pay two different fees when applying for a passport:
Acceptance fee
Paid to the Poplar Creek Public Library
The acceptance fee is $35. You can pay with cash or credit card only. Checks not accepted. Expedited service may have an additional charge.
Application fee
Paid to the U.S. Department of State
The application fee varies depending on a number of factors (like age and passport type). You can pay with check (personal, certified, cashier's, traveler's) or money order payable to "U.S. Department of State." Cash not accepted. The typical adult (ages 16 and older) passport book application fee is $130. Review the full list of fees.
