How do I get a library card?

Visit any PCPLD location to fill out a library card application. You will need to show proof of current address plus a valid photo ID.  A photo will be taken for security purposes, when first awarded the card and with each renewal. For more information, view our Library Card Policy.

Acceptable forms of proof of name and address include:

  • Driver's license or state ID
  • Voter ID card
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Lease
  • Checkbook
  • Firearm Owner's Identification card
  • Fishing license
  • Paycheck stub

A parent or guardian's signature is required for children ages 17 and younger. Parent or guardian must be present.

Can I get a library card online?

Yes, PCPLD residents who only want to use our online services and do not have a Library card may apply for an eCard. It provides access to all online resources including ebooks, eaudiobooks, evideos and databases. Once your card has been processed you will receive your library card barcode number and password. To check out physical materials, request an interlibrary loan or reserve a computer, apply for a card in-person or visit any PCPLD location to convert your eCard to a card with full borrowing privileges.

Can I use other libraries in Illinois?

Yes. With a Poplar Creek Library card, you may register as a reciprocal borrower at other libraries throughout the state. Most libraries have restrictions for reciprocal borrowers. Please check with the individual library.

What if I lose my library card?

If you lose your library card, please call any PCPLD location as soon as possible. You’re responsible for all materials, fines and fees checked out on your library card until its loss is reported. Replacement cards are $1. Please visit any PCPLD location to fill out a new library card application. You’ll need to show a current, valid ID with your name, photo and address.

How do I renew my library card?

PCPLD library cards are valid for three years. If your address hasn't changed, we need just one piece of identification to verify your name and address. If your address has changed, bring two forms of identification showing your new address. E-Cards are valid for one year.

Is my business eligible for a library card?

Businesses and nonprofit organizations located in the Poplar Creek Library service area are eligible to receive a free business Library card.

To receive a card, the business owner or manager must visit a Library location with all of the following:

  • A personal ID, such as driver's license or state ID
  • A written request on the business or organization's letterhead
  • Business documentation dated within the last year, such as a business license, property tax bill, lease or utility bill

Business Library cards must be renewed annually.

This card provides access to the Library's materials and online databases. It cannot be used at other libraries or to request materials from other libraries through interlibrary loan.

Who can apply for an eCard?

PCPLD residents who do not have a PCPLD library card and only want to use PCPLD online services may apply for an eCard

What services can I use with an eCard?

Use your eCard to check out:

  • eBooks from eMedia Library
  • Audiobooks from eMedia Library
  • Videos from Kanopy

Use online resources such as CreativeBug, LinkedIn Learning, Mango Languages, Morningstar and so much more.

What services are not available with an eCard?

You must convert your eCard to a library card with full borrowing privileges to check out physical materials, place holds, request an interlibrary loan or use a library computer. You can convert your eCard at any PCPLD location. Current, valid ID with name, photo and address is required.

If I already have a library card, do I need an eCard?

No. Your current library card can be used for online services.

What if I lose my eCard number?

To request your eCard number, please call us (331) 808-3529.
