Borrow from the Library of Extraordinary Things
The Library of Extraordinary Things (LOET) collection holds our non-traditional library items. The checkout limit is 3 items at time; for a maximum of one week. Poplar Creek card holders may place holds on items. For a list of items available, please see the website.
Donate an item to the library
PCPLD accepts donations of books and DVDs in good condition. Small donations in boxes or bags may be dropped off at the Circulation desk at the Main Library. Please call us in advance for large donations of more than four boxes or bags, 331-808-3529.
Fax or scan documents
Both the fax machine and scanner are located on the main floor in our Computer & Technology area. The fax machine has a cost of $1.75 for the first page and $1.00 for every page after that. It takes both credit and debits cards only. There is no charge to scan and email documents. A fax machine is also available at the Sonya Crawshaw Branch.
Find tax assistance
PCPLD provides Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for taxpayers with gross income less than $58,000 per year. To book an appointment, please contact our Receptionist at 331-808-3515. For more information, see our Tax Resources page.
Get a library card
Library cards are available free of charge to all residents living within the library district. To see if you live in our district, view the District Map. Please bring current identification that includes your full name and reflects that your street address is within the library district. Types of identification may include driver's license, printed checks, a current utility bill sent through the mail, a real estate tax bill, or student identification. Visit our Getting a library Card page for more details.
Keep track of books I read
Go to My Account in the library catalog and login with your library card number and PIN. On the left-side menu bar, click My Record. Under Contact Information and Preferences find the checkbox to Maintain Reading History.
Pay for photocopies
Copy machines and printers accept cash only and are located on both the main floor and the lower level of the Main Library. We have one copier at the Sonya Crawshaw Branch. B&W copies are .10 per copy .20 for double sided and color copies are .50 per copy $1 for double sided. The use of specialty paper is not permitted. You must use the paper provided. Please call the Computer Services Desk 331-808-3521 with questions.
Print from my phone or tablet
Wireless printing is available for phones, tablets, laptops and your computer at home. Print outs are available for pick up at the Main Library.
Register for a program
Not all events require registration. Events that require registration will display a "Register" link in their description; just click the link and fill out the fields to register. You can register in person at any service desk, online or call 630-837-6800.
Renew my library books
Renewable library items will automatically renew twice, as long as another patron does not have it on hold. Automatic renewal will be blocked if a patron has outstanding fines exceeding $20. QuickPicks, Extraordinary Things and videogames do not renew. Please call the library at 331-808-3529 for questions about renewals.
Reserve a museum pass
Poplar Creek Public Library card holders receive free admission to many exciting museums and cultural institutions throughout the Chicagoland area. Please check both Museum Adventure Pass and Explore More Illinois for passes.
Reserve a study room
Study Rooms, located at the Main Library, can be reserved by patrons with a Poplar Creek library card. You can reserve a room in-person, online or by calling 331-808-3554. For more information, visit our Study Rooms page on our website.
Rent a meeting room
The Main Library has three meeting rooms available for community programs and party rental. For more information, see our Meeting Room Policy. To reserve one of these rooms, please contact the Receptionist at 331-808-3515.
Rokus* are pre-loaded with movies from the library's digital collection. They are made available through the VUDU app. Our Roku devices have the Vudu app pre-installed and logged in. Under the “My Vudu” or My Library” tab in the Vudu app, there should be our free movie collection.

The Library has a convenient drive-up book drop available. It is located on the south side of the building. Simply drop your items into the bins.
